18/11/17 Today a few of us tried out the Hahndorf Old Mill for breakfast. Pretty good and lots of sealed parking out back.
So it is chosen.
The Hahndorf Old Mill is the venue for the inaugural SA Breakfast Club on the 6th Jan 2018, from 9.30am.
(Breakfast is until 10.30.) Plenty of sealed parking out back.
For those coming a long way, they have queen-bed ensuite upstairs rooms for $95, and motel rooms from $160.
Old Mill website. Book early!
14/11/17 The Quorn weekender is proving very popular. An updated flyer for it is on the Events page.
Poor old Don has done it again, and Sue is no doubt tearing her hair out. :(
Don Freene has had a ladder mishap, adding to his broken bone count total. (More bike injuries than Evil Knievel.)
Mend quick, Don.
15/10/17 Thanks Jenny Hills, for the dinner photos on the
We had a good time, despite the band being somwhat loud. :) Afterwards it was coffee and cake at the Waggies'.
10/10/17 It's official. The 2018 Odyssey will be on the October long weekend, at Robe, hosted by Fleurieu Branch.
Thanks Ray & Jo.
As preparations evolve, you'll see info here, and eventually the usual online registration.
3/10/17 Here's hoping you all set your clocks forward successfully. Now the curtains start to fade. :)
Odyssey survey: In the interests of improving Odysseys,
Julie Hendrickx has knocked up a survey that members and partners can fill in to give us feedback.
In the menu on the left, you'll see an Odyssey Survey item. Please use that to do a short survey, once per SA member or partner.
You can also download a printed version of the survey for use by non-computer people.
But I'd prefer you do the online version, because someone (me) will have transfer paper copies to online.
30/9/17 A late comment on the Odyssey: It went well. Low numbers (95 registrations), but attendees seemed happy with the meals, entertainment and activities.
You can find some unflattering pics and video at: Adelaide Facebook, and Fleurieu Facebook.
If anyone else has photos or videos they want to share, please get in touch.
The auction of a photographic print of Pondalowie Bay, donated by Vicki Freer (Raw Funk Photography) raised $200 + $93 for the Ardrossan Skate Park.
The raffle raised $513 for the Riley Nixon Trust Fund. -Riley is a local child who lost his hands and feet to meningococcal disease.
18/9/17 Registration for the Odyssey is now closed. See you all there!
14/9/17 Rod has some BMW R1200RT and general accessories on the Classifieds page.
7/9/17 There is a BMW G650GS on the Classifieds page.
Links to the flyers for the Coffin Bay weekend (27-30 Oct) and Quorn weekend (24-27 Nov) are on the Events page.
11/8/17 From Glenda:
When Adelaide was being lashed with wild winds and torrential rain, the 17 optimistic souls from Adelaide and Torrens Valley branches that were prepared to brave the elements were rewarded with sunshine, food and great company. With a few heaters, pots of pasta and some port the camp Kitchen was cosy for Friday night’s meet and greet and again for the cooked breakfasts each morning (minus the port). The camping ground was walking distance to the local pub and Cobdogla proved to be a great base to check out the attractions of the area. Cafes, wineries and the brewery were popular choices. Thanks to Michele for organising a location that ticked all the boxes, to the Waggies for hearty food and treats, Pete for getting it there by car and all those who provided their friendship.
And Shelley has a writeup and piccies on the Torrens Valley Facebook page.
1/8/17 (Jeez the year is flying by, ain't it?)
Crazee (Philip) Jenkins funeral is at Alfred James Funeral Directors, 272 Main Sth Rd, Morphett Vale, 10am Friday 4th August.
Pam is asking for attendees to bring one single yellow rose, and there will be the opportunity to make a donation to The Cancer Foundation in memory of Crazee.
Wear your club shirts and ride your bikes if you can, to give Crazee a good send off and support Pam, Mark, family and friends.
We had a good ride to Kevin's place on Sunday for a nice lunch. Didn't get rained on at all.
We were joined for lunch by folk from the Mallee Branch.
Always good to natter with members from other branches.
Thanks Kevin and Denise for all your effort, and thanks Salty for bringing some Mallee mob along.
And thanks to Frank for leading the ride, despite having a waterbag trip to get from home way down South, to Civic Park. (Frank got wet on the way.)
There are photos from our intrepid photographer Peter on the
21/7/17 2017 Odyssey:
The Ardrossan caravan park is full on the Odyssey weekend (all cabins gone, some site ensuites left ). The CFS are gathering in the town that weekend, and there's a wedding!
But there are plenty of weekend houses to share, and motel rooms. $10 camping on the oval is still OK. See accommodation details on the info page.
If you are going, and haven't already done so, please register, preferably online.
If you are going to the Cobdogla weekend (4-6 August), please let Michele know on 0429 673 381.
Carolyn has a friend selling boots and jacket on the Classifieds page. (They look like the Rossi boots I wear and love, but sadly too small for me.)
11/7/17 The funeral for Gordon Woods is at 12 noon Monday 17th July 2017, North Haven Football Club, Victoria Road, Largs North.
5/7/17 From Lorraine Robinson:
Gordon Woods (was a member of the Ulysses club and attended both Adelaide and Torrens Valley) sadly passed away 4/7/17 from internal injuries due to a motorcycle accident on Sunday 2/7/17 when he hit a kangaroo.
The flyer for the Cobdogla weekend (4-6 August) is up.
See the Events page for details.
24/6/17 The June Odyssey magazine is on the website.
(Yep, Ken, Michele and Pete are baaaaaaaack, 11,220kms later.)
26/5/17 Great weather here at Pt Macquarie. :)
10/5/17 Registration for the 2017 SA Odyssey is live.
Click on the menu 2017 Odyssey link, then click on the register online link there.
Further info will be posted as it comes to hand, but enough details are up. Camping around the oval will be $10 per tent/RV.
3/5/17 I thought this link on Motorbike Lane Filtering in SA might be useful.
Ken, John and Peter rode to Morgan to attend the Mallee Branch BBQ there, where we met Kevin, Denise and Ivan.
Good ride, company, and food. Made possible by the SA Event Calendar, which allows us to see the events from other branches.
12/4/17 The 2017 Odyssey will be at Ardrossan, hosted by Adelaide branch.
A link to the info page is in the menu. Details will be added as they are known. Online registration will be up once meals and rides are determined.
Details and a registration page will be in the June Odyssey.
The next event to look forward to is the AGM, or Not The AGM Weekend if you aren't AGMing. See the Events page for details.
Torrens Valley is now added to the SA Event Calendar. Only Lower Murray and Broken Hill to work on now.
25/3/17 The SA Event Calendar (link in Menu) is coming along.
Now have Mallee, Fleurieu and Eyre Peninsula branches on board.
The idea is that SA members can see what rides and events are on all round the state, to promote more inter-branch mingling.
18/3/17 A great time was had by all at the Loonies On The Lake weekend at Milang. Its a lovely spot.
Vicki has posted some pictures here.
It was attended by Torrens Valley, Adelaide and Fleurieu branch members. And we met up with a couple of Victorian members.
Just how branch events should work! Thanks Bob, for organising it and leading the ride.
2/3/17 An email we got from the Timbertown folk about accommodation there for the 2017 AGM can be read here.
3/2/17 Well another AGM has been and gone. Once again Neville Gray officiated for a few minutes, thanks Nev.
The 2017 committee is on the Committee page. Its goodbye to David and Brett, hello to John.
If anyone feels like trying the secretary's job, get in touch.
Thanks to Craig for his presentation on the Oxley Highway. Now if we could only get that video projector working better...
25/1/17 Michele has done a flyer on the weekenders she's planned for this year.
Get it here.
Copies will be at the February meeting. We hope the dates don't conflict too much with what other branches are doing.
They are all on our Events page as well as our Event Calendar, along with a few items from other branches.
Individual flyers will appear closer to the events.
15/1/17 Nashy has seriously dropped the price of his Honda CB250 on the Classifieds page.
The national committee will be in town this weekend.
If you'd like to have dinner with them, its at the Duke of York Hotel, 82 Currie St Adelaide, Friday 20th January from 7pm. (You pay for yourself.)
Seating is limited, so "first in, best dressed" they reckon.
10/1/17 As mentioned at the January meeting, the Loonies On The Lake and Great Ocean Road events are on our
The GOR trip must be a secret, cos I can't find it on the Torrens Valley website.
So click here to get some details of its itinerary. 13th-17th March, on the end of the Loonies rally.
-See if you can figure out the two letter codes at the front of each event title.
4/1/17 Hope you all had a good New Years Eve. Time to start thinking about what you want to do with your Ulysses mates in 2017.
The Loonies On The Lake gathering is happening at Milang, March 10th-13th. Get the flyer here.
13/12/16 The December Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.
12/12/16 The Adelaide Branch Toy Run BBQ Breakfast was a success yet again.
You'll find some photos here in the Gallery:
3/12/16 Want to nominate someone for the committee? The form is here. Get it in by the January meeting.
The Adelaide Branch Xmas dinner was a well attended success. The band was good. Thanks to Michelle Stevens for organising it, and thanks to all those distant members who came along to swell our numbers, including a bunch from Lower Murray branch. Eating, drinking and socialising is what Ulyssians do best, and we did it well last night!
5/11/16 David Hirst is participating in Movember, raising funds to tackle mens health problems.
31/10/16 The photo gallery has changed version from 2 to 3. It looks and behaves different, sorry about that.
This change was forced by the inxorable advance of software. A PHP version update on our server makes Gallery2 unuseable.
Gallery3 is itself old (2013), so I don't know how long we can keep using that.
You might recall that we were using an even better version, Gallery1, which 2 replaced.
Sadly newer is not always better.
On the plus side, we've changed our hosting plan to allow more storage (unlimited, sort of).
So what is there in the way of photos and magazines will remain for the foreseeable future.
24/10/16 The October Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.
12/10/16 Brian has an FJR for sale on the Classifieds page.
7/10/16 A reminder about the Penola Weekender. Please let Michele Wagnitz know if you are coming.
Click here for a PDF about the event.
It was suggested that we not have the December Thursday night meeting, since it is the night before our Xmas dinner. We'll ask for a show of hands at our next meeting to see what members want.
Catch up with Michelle Stevens at the November meeting if you want to come to the Xmas dinner. $20 a ticket.
6/10/16 We've had a Clare weekend (a few of us anyway), and now another Odyssey has been and gone.
The Encounter Bay Odyssey was hit with bad weather, but I think we all had a good time.
(I was warm and dry, cabinning in the price-gouging Beachfront caravan park -never staying there again.)
The football club did a fair job of hospitality and meals.
Well done, Fleurieu Branch.
There are some photos in the Gallery of the parade and of Wendy receiving the Telemachus award, which was presented to her on the Saturday night.
Brett took some video, including overhead. Click here for that.
Our next away is the Penola weekend. See the Events page for details.
The next Odyssey is at Lucindale, October long weekend 2017. Lots of powered sites, virtually no hard accommodation. Naracoorte for that.
6/9/16 Back yesterday from Rod Lind's YP EP ride, staying at Hawker. We rode to Blinman, stopping at Wilpena for a coffee. Country was green, emus and roos were plentiful. Attendance was from at least four branches, and we had a merry social time. Stone Hut bakery serves great pies.
I promised at the last meeting to put up some useful links, so here they are:
- Timber Town Heritage Park is advertising caravan, RV and tent sites for the 2017 AGM not far from the event site.
- The Pink Ribbon Ride is on 30th October.
- Rotary have a Motorbike Expo & Swap Meet on 20th November.
- The Encounter Bay Odyssey needs your registration if you haven't already done it.
- Adelaide Branch Xmas dinner is on the 2nd December (not the 9th). Get your $20 to Michelle Stevens. Organise a table of friends.
The Clare weekender is on this weekend.
Please note that the Penola weekender date has been brought forward by a week to 11-13 November.
See the Events page for these.
19/8/16 The August Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.
A preliminary 2017 rides calender is up. The link to it is at the bottom of the 2016 page.
We had a good weekend away at Tumby Bay. The weather was very kind to us. The Coffin Bay oysters were up to scratch.
11/7/16 Louise has a topbox and jacket for sale on the Classifieds page.
Adelaide branch are proving tougher than our neighbours, who cancel rides at the drop of a hat (or raindrop). We had a good ride yesterday. -See the Gallery for photos and map.
21/6/16 Chris Roberts has his Triumph Speed Triple for sale on the Classifieds page.
18/6/16 Paul Sponheimer has a Harley Davidson with side car attached for sale. Contact him on 08 8322 1828.

22/5/16 Registration for the 2016 Odyssey at Encounter Bay is now live. See the link in the menu.
A PDF of the registration form is here for those who can't fill in an online form.

Congratulations to Hobbit for receiving a Telemachus award for services to the Fleurieu branch.
3/5/16 Steve has a Honda CB250 for sale on the Classifieds page.
19/4/16 The April Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.
Please note the dates of the next couple of monthly dinners on the Events page. The magazine has them a week late!
Folks attending the motorcyclist first aid course were impressed by the phone app that is useful in an emergency. It is named Emergency+. I installed it on my Android phone from the Play Store. It presents an easy emergency dial page for 000, SES or Police, and if your GPS receiver is turned on, shows your GPS coordinates and address for reading out to the operator. Can save time in an emergency when actions can be muddled.
Bob Sadleir will give a talk about the SA bushfires of recent times, at the May Thursday monthly meeting.
The April meeting was a real buzz and well attended, even with some of the regulars missing.
1/4/16 No its not an April fools joke, here is some video from the drone that flew over the Launceston AGM parade:
facebook.com/WeedingHire/videos, complete with music!
The Helite airbag vest from Moto Smart will be on show at our April meeting.
Well we had our branch AGM on Thursday 4th, and we now have a complete committee. See some new faces on the Committee page.
We had a presentation from I/O Merino, selling fine Merino wool garments. Look on the Links page for the discount code to get 20% off.
The February Odyssey magazine is on the Magazine page.
A motorcyclist first aid course is coming to Adelaide, 5th & 12 Mar, 29th Oct, 5th Nov. Click here for info.
31/1/16 Liz Fairchild's funeral is at Heysen Chapel, Centennial Park Cemetary, 760 Goodwood Rd Pasadena, at 12.30pm Friday 5th Feb.
It is with great sadness that the Ulysses Adelaide members are advised of the death of our Past President, Elizabeth Fairchild at 11am this morning 29th January 2016.
We send our heartfelt condolences to Ken and family.
Liz loved riding and worked tirelessly for the club. She devised and implemented many features and activities that added to the enjoyment as well as the comradery of the Adelaide Ulysses Branch.
Her continued commitment, determination, smile and positivity have been greatly admired.
Elizabeth Fairchild 30/4/1955 - 29/1/2016 Ulysses Member Number 12639.
